7 tips to make your hair color last

Now that you’ve got the beautiful color you long for, how do you hold on to it? Here are seven tips to make your hair color last.

When it comes to coloring, it’s good to have the hair specialists that got your back. We share tips from Wella color experts to make your life (and the life of your hair color) more comfortable.

Tip #1

Sunshine is colored hair’s enemy. The UV rays can deplete color-treated hair of its brilliance if strands are left unprotected. Put Wella Deluxe Color Gloss spray in your hair while sunbathing as this will help prevent fading color, plus it will help prevent frizz.

Tip #2

Whenever possible, rinse hair with fresh water after it’s been submerged in chlorinated water or saltwater.

Tip #3

Heat styling can damage your hair year-round, but it is more evident in sunny weather. Let hair dry naturally when you can, but if you must blow-dry your hair, when using a hairdryer, aim the nozzle down the hair shaft. This helps to flatten the hair cuticle and minimize breakages, helping your color look richer by reflecting more light.

Tip #4

Use a sun protection oil on your hair every day, as it is a great additional barrier to sun fading.

Tip #5

When washing your hair, try to keep the water as cool as possible. Rinse hair in cold water as this helps to flatten the cuticle and make it shine.

Tip #6

Color-enhancing shampoos and conditioners enhance the look of your color treated hair while protecting it against damage. A great option is Koleston Color Concealer Conditioner, with different variants specific to your hair color.

Tip #7

Reapply your hair color as often as product recommendations. For instance, Soft Color demi-permanent applied once a month, will help to keep your color multidimensional and shiny hair.
