How to Wear Metallic Hair Color

It’s time to shine on a whole new level. Metallic hair color has officially reached trend status, with tones of rose gold, silver and copper adding major gloss to strands. Just look to YouTube if you don’t believe us, where videos of metal-inspired hair transformations are racking up millions of views and thousands of adoring comments.

And it makes total sense. Metallic makeup and manicures have been trending for months, with the likes of copper highlighter and OPI Nail Lacquer in This Silver’s Mine! cropping up all over Insta. Now, we’re looking to shake off the hair-dulling effects of winter and embrace spring’s metallic manes. But, how do you get the look? Here are two of our favorite ways to wear a shimmery shade…

ROSE GOLD HAIR COLOR

Rose gold is the ultimate trending metallic. It looks particularly flattering on a blonde base color, and can be tweaked to appear more rose or more gold depending on your complexion. Wella Professionals Color Fresh CREATE is perfect for mixing up this pinky hue, with blendable shades like Nu-dist Pink and Uber Gold in its extensive portfolio.

On brunette hair, try combining a rose gold hue with a free-hand painting technique. It’s a fresh, new spin on balayage that’s ultra-low maintenance to wear.

SILVER HAIR COLOR

Like ice blonde hair, silver hair is pale, reflective and impactful. To get the most out of this shade, it should be worn on blonde or grey hair, or (if the hair is dark) painted through pre-lightened strands.

The Illumina Color portfolio has an array of silvery colors. Look to the cooler end of the spectrum, where you’ll find metallic platinum tones and iridescent pewter hues. To really amp up the shine in these shades, team with texture-boosting waves, or mist lengths with EIMI Thermal Image before using a ghd styler to straighten hair

Meanwhile, a high-shine bronze can be created using a personalized palette of shades from the Color Touch range, which will warm up darker hair and add that coveted reflective finish. A color this flattering can be worn all over, or scattered through strands to add some subtle luminosity.

MAINTAIN THE METALLIC

Once you’ve got that metallic glow, you need to maintain it – especially if you’re a natural blonde. Book in for glossing or toning services between color appointments to keep your high-shine shade looking fresh.

Remember: the more you wash your hair, the more the shade will fade. Keep washing and heat styling to a minimum, and treat your locks to INVIGO Color Brilliance Color Protection Shampoo and Vibrant Color Conditioner.
